End of an Era: St. Catherine School to Close After 78 Years of Catholic Education Legacy

[Kapaa, Kauai, Hawaii] – St. Catherine School, a beacon of Catholic education for 78 years, sadly announces its closure in June 2024. Despite tireless efforts to sustain its mission, the school will cease operations, marking the end of an illustrious legacy of educating generations of students.

“We wish to thank every teacher, administrator, priest, nun, family member, and student who chose to be a part of St. Catherine School legacy,” says Father Nicholas “Nick” Apetorgbor, Pastor of St. Catherine of Alexandria Parish.   “You will not be forgotten,” adds Mandy Thronas-Brown, Interim School Principal, “Please know just how special you are to our community, and we thank you for all of your hard work, dedication and love you have given over the years.”

The School and Parish is committed to ending the school year celebrating St. Catherine School’s contribution to the community since 1946.

The students, teachers and staff of St. Catherine School wishes to invite all of Kaua’i, malihini and kama’aina alike, to join them at their annual St. Catherine Carnival on May 3rd and 4th, 2024. The carnival will run from 5 PM to 10 PM and promises to be a festive atmosphere filled with ‘ono food, incredible entertainment, fun games, and rides for the little ones.

To commemorate our school’s legacy and honor the countless individuals who have been part of the St. Catherine School, we also extend a special invitation to all to join us at the Farewell Mass with Bishop Larry Silva followed by dinner to be hosted by St. Catherine Parish and School on June 5th, 2024. The Mass will begin at 5 PM.

Join us to celebrate the rich history, cherished memories, and enduring legacy of St. Catherine School as we bid a fond farewell.
