From the Office for Social Ministry
“All of us can cooperate as instruments of God for the care of Creation, each according to his or her own culture, experience, involvements and talents.” Pope Francis The Encyclical Laudato Si.
In the first 2023 Catholic Relief Services Lenten Rice Bowl Story of Hope, the family of Rony and Reina in Honduras are learning new ways to farm so they can grow crops even when there is little rain. Nearly one-third of the world’s population lives in dry, hot areas where crops can’t grow well. For instance, in countries experiencing serious drought conditions such as Honduras, farmers are learning water-smart practices like planting over crops to protect and restore soil and water resources.
Let us offer our Lenten intentions for all those facing food insecurity around the world: “We pray for Rony and Regina and for all farmers who grow crops in areas with severe weather changes. May they receive the training and resources needed to become more resilient to a changing climate. Amen.”
