Merger of Two Big Island Parishes

On Monday, November 28, 2022, Most Reverend Larry Silva announced the merger of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, Papaikou (which includes Good Shepherd Church Honomu), and St. Anthony Parish, Papaaloa (with a mailing address in Laupahoehoe) into a single parish, effective January 1, 2023. This newly configured parish will be named “Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish,” with each church retaining its original title. Reverend Stephen Macedo was appointed as pastor of this newly configured parish, continuing his prior term as pastor of the parishes separately.
