Prayer and Fasting for Peace in Ukraine

Our Holy Father, Pope Francis, has urged Catholics throughout the world to fast and pray in a special way on Ash Wednesday for peace in Ukraine. I encourage all to do so in the Diocese of Honolulu, whose Patroness is Our Lady of Peace. Praying the Rosary or the Divine Mercy Chaplet, either individually or in groups, is highly encouraged.  Parishes are urged to add the following (or similar) petitions to the Universal Prayer at services on Ash Wednesday:

• That the Prince of Peace may bring immediate peace to Ukraine and its neighbors, opening the hearts of all to his love for all people, we pray to the Lord.
• That those who are defending their homeland in Ukraine and those who join with them may be protected and may soon return to their families to enjoy firm and lasting peace, we pray to the Lord.
