From the Office for Social Ministry
Government subsidized Public Housing assists low-income families, our kupuna and persons with disabilities to afford decent, safe and sanitary housing. A program of the Federal Government, the maximum rent is based on 30% of the eligible Family’s adjusted income or a flat rate as established by HUD (U.S. Dept of Housing and Urban Development). With the high cost of housing in the islands, this federal public housing program makes it possible for many throughout our community to keep a roof over their heads.
For a very short period and applicable to specific locations, the Hawaii Public Housing Authority (HPHA) will temporarily reopen the waiting list for low-income applicants on Oahu. HPHA will accept the first 1,000 qualified applications to be added to each waiting list. Applications will not be accepted in person, only online.
