From the Office for Social Ministry
April is National Minority Health Month (NMHM), a time to raise awareness about health disparities among racial and ethnic minority groups and to promote healthier lifestyles among these vulnerable populations. This year’s theme is “Give Your Community a Boost!” It’s a campaign in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of Minority Health (OMH) and other partners to promote the importance of COVID-19 vaccinations and boosters.
State Department of Health (DOH) data indicates communities of color have been disproportionately affected throughout the pandemic, especially Hawaiians, Filipinos and Pacific Islanders. To help prevent the spread of the virus, you can help spread the word to these communities by sharing Multilingual Resources from the DOH website which includes guidance and information about COVID-19 translated in twenty-four different languages. Anyone can log on and learn how to schedule a vaccination or booster shot and where to find testing sites.
Information is power so please share these links with parishioners and encourage them to GIVE YOUR COMMUNITY A BOOST! For more COVID related information, visit the COVID-19 State of Hawaii Portal. So in honor of NMHM month, let’s all work together to build healthier communities and advance health equity in Hawaii and around the world!
