From the Office for Social Ministry
People who care for the sick, elderly, or disabled are often too generous with their time for others that they sometimes forget about their own personal needs. Whether caregivers are prepping meals, running errands, doing household chores or driving loved ones to doctor appointments, the Family Caregiver Alliance encourages all caregivers to not forget about taking care of themselves: “Caring for yourself is one of the most important – and one of the most often forgotten – things you can do as a caregiver. When your needs are taken care of, the person you care for will benefit, too.” Preventive healthcare and positive self-care behavior are key for maintaining mental and emotional health.
That’s why our friends at St. Francis Healthcare System of Hawaii offer a variety of Caregiver Wellness Classes each month to keep your body in shape through basic exercises, boxing and even Zumba! Other classes also offer workshops to help you make better lifestyle choices surrounding diet, sleep habits and stress management. The free sessions are available online to adhere to COVID-19 safety guidelines. All virtual classes are conducted on Zoom to make participation possible for all caregivers statewide.
The following topics will be offered in the month of NOVEMBER:
Exercise and Health
Medicare Basics
Understanding Parkinson’s Disease
Brain Injuries, Stroke, Spinal Cord Injuries – Learning the causes and signs.
