Ministry with Families Leadership Formation

[Maui, HI] – The recently formed Diocesan Marriage and Family Life Ministry Task Force is proud to present Ministry with Families Leadership Formation, presented by Steve and Kathy Bierne of the National Association of Catholic Family Life Minsters. This training is meant for all whose ministry efforts impact families. 

The leadership formation course is an experiential learning process designed to be an introduction to ministry from a family perspective. This six-session training will be held on Saturdays January 8 through February 12, 2022, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. via Zoom and is meant for ALL Parish Staff, Ministry leaders, Catholic School faculty and staff as a way to learn how to incorporate a family perspective in all that we do.

Cost of the training is $20 per person/couple an includes access to handouts and recorded sessions. * Recorded sessions will allow registered participants to get the full content of the sessions even if they may not be able to attend all sessions live. (Credits may be applied as ongoing formation hours for Hawaii Catholic School teachers.)

Lee and Tanya Barbero, members of the Marriage and Family Life Ministry Task Force, explain why this concept of ministry from a family perspective is so relevant today.  “Everything we do touches families. It is woven into the fabric of the Church. Family Life Ministry is not another “new thing to do”, but rather a new awareness of what we have been doing all along, looking at what we do through the lens of family life, and responding to the needs of our families.  This is an opportunity to learn and understand the basics of this new way to reach the unique needs of  families in our faith community. Together we can build a strong foundation going forward.” 

The Diocesan Marriage and Family Life Ministry Task Force was established in June 2021 to assist and accompany parish leaders in researching, planning, implementing and supporting their own Marriage and Family Life Ministry meeting the needs of their faith community.  Representatives from each of the nine Vicariates in the Diocese of Honolulu serve as area contacts to help other parish leaders establish or strengthen their efforts in this important area.
