Families relying on SNAP (Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program) benefits can now double their buying power at participating grocery stores through the end of the year! Currently, SNAP recipients use Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards to purchase groceries; as well as DA BUX cards to buy up to $20 of locally grown fruits and vegetables a day--at 50% discounts for a limited time.
Now, DA BUX shoppers will get extra savings during the holidays by adding local ground beef and eggs to their list of homegrown produce for up to $50 per day through December 29, 2020! These added benefits are courtesy of CARES Act funds, plus matching contributions from community partners such as Ulupono Initiative, Weinberg Foundation, Stupski Foundation, Kamehameha Schools and an anonymous donor. Participating grocery stores include Times Super Markets, Shima’s Super Market, Big Save Markets, and KTA Super Stores.
DA BUX special promotions are especially helpful for our vulnerable children and seniors, who rely on food from our parish pantries that consist mostly of non-perishable goods. The extra discounts to local hamburger and eggs will offer much-needed protein to their daily nutritional values.
Participants on Hawaii Island will also be able to order their local produce online by signing into Hawaii Food Basketwebsite or calling (808) 933-6030. All DA BUX benefits will continue through 2021, while funds last. Discounts on localground beef and eggs, however, will expire after December 29. So get shopping and thanks for supporting our local farmers and ranchers!
