From Suzanne Carlos, Development Coordinator
Holy Family Catholic Academy and Early Learning Center
To celebrate their 25th Anniversary, Holy Family Early Learning Center (ELC) hosted a 'Quarter Drive' in September with a goal of raising $225. The ELC far surpassed that goal and collected $1,100 for HUGS Hawaii--a local non-profit organization whose mission is to strengthen Hawaii's families and improve their quality of life as they face the emotional and financial hardships of caring for a seriously ill child. The effort was led by ELC teacher Ms. Mary-Anne McMillin and the preschool students in her Lambs Class.
To commemorate their 25th Anniversary, Holy Family Early Learning Center is organizing monthly service projects to benefit the greater community. To broaden their scope and impact, students and their families from both the ELC (preschool) and Holy Family Catholic Academy (kindergarten-grade 8) are invited to participate. In August, the ELC conducted a Pet Shelter Towel Donation Drive where they donated 116 bath and beach towels to the Hawaiian Humane Society.
Holy Family Early Learning Center's 25th Anniversary event for the month of October is their Cards of Gratitude and Aloha Service Project. Mrs. Chelsea Dean, lead teacher for the ELC's Little Angels class, invited the entire student body and faculty & staff members to create handmade thank you cards for Hawaii's healthcare workers. The notes of encouragement are a token of gratitude, support and appreciation for the medical personnel that have worked tirelessly throughout the COVID pandemic. These thank you cards will be presented to Pali Momi Medical Center, The Queen's Medical Center, Kapiolani Medical Center, and Tripler Army Medical Center to honor and celebrate their healthcare workers.
To commemorate its 25th Anniversary, Holy Family Early Learning Center is welcoming monetary donations from interested donors to support their special projects and enrichment activities including playground improvements, Hawaiiana curriculum and their school garden. Those interested in donating may contact ELC Director, Mr. Allen Akiona, at (808) 421-1265 or via email at aakiona@hfcahawaii.org.
