Help me find...
June 15, 2020
After an appeal to their community, St. Joseph School Hilo will remain open for the 2020-2021 school year. The school, parish, families, friends, alumni, and the like rallied to raise $500,000 to keep the 151 year-old school open. In a letter dated June 5, 2020, Principal Michael Pa'ekukui writes:
"We give our Lord God praise and thanksgiving for all the bountiful blessings he bestows on St. Joseph school. It gives me great joy to announce to you that our pastor, Father Poli Ty has given permission for St. Joseph School to move forward! We look forward to the 2020-2021 School Year! We are grateful to the School Board, Parish Finance Council, PTG leadership, Alumni, Augustine Educational Foundation, Diocesesan personnel and especially our donors who made this possible!
St. Joseph School is nearing the $500,000.00 in donations and pledges. We believe that we offer a quality, Catholic, educational plan and will be working closely with the School Board in finalizing a long-range strategic plan that will include developing a foundation and partnerships so St. Joseph School can continue to be a strong educational institution in Hilo for many years to come. A news release will be sent to news and media sources in the near future.
Thank you Father Poli for your leadership, support and prayers."
