April 15, 2020
First observed in 1983 via proclamation by President Ronald Reagan, National Child Abuse Prevention Month recognizes the importance of families and communities working together to prevent child abuse and neglect, and promotes the social and emotional well-being of children and families. During the month of April and throughout the year, the Diocese of Honolulu works to increase awareness and provide education and support to our families through resources and strategies focused on preventing child abuse and neglect.
We all need to be aware of the increased risk of child abuse in this current environment of uncertainty that mandates social distancing and self-isolation, and we can also use this period of time to renew our commitment to caring for victims of abuse and protecting our most vulnerable.
