Harvest Family Life Ministries Hawaii, promotes foster care and adoption. Headed locally by Pastor Pastor Brad McDaniel and his wife Esther, they are directly involved with advocacy and placement of children into good Christian homes.
This is a great opportunity for ecumenical participation for the Catholic Church, especially as this is community pastoral care for foster children. Everyone can help even in the smallest, simplest way, like praying!
In December 2018, five children entered the foster care system on Oahu:
They are blessed to have their grandparents, who live on a fixed income with limited savings in a small studio apartment in Makaha, as their foster caregivers. Because of the sudden growth of their household, Grandpa and Grandma need a larger living space. They recently received some good news – a 4 bedroom apartment in Wahiawa will soon be their new residence (exact date to be determined). The grandparents have been working to assure a smooth transition for their grandchildren - school registrations, social worker home visits, apartment management on both sides, and more, including many sleepless nights comforting the children from the traumas they were exposed to.
Before the family can move into their new home, they need to have furnishing set up for each child in accordance with Child Welfare Services foster licensing requirements.
Here is a list of what is needed:
