"Justice is inseparable from charity and intrinsic to it."Pope Benedict XVI Caritas in Veritate, #6
The values of Charity and Justice are vital for Catholic Living. The Catholic Diocese of Honolulu in Hawaii strives to put charity and justice into practice in many areas, including parish social ministry, respect life, child & youth protection, homelessness and affordable housing, food security and sustainable development, global solidarity, disabilities ministry, immigration & economic justice, prisoner re-entry & community re-integration.
Parishes are communities of faith, action, and hope. They are where the gospel is proclaimed and celebrated, where believers are formed and sent to renew the earth. This involves building a social ministry effort such as envisioned in the U.S. Bishops document Communities of Salt and Light which calls for tapping every able Catholic's baptismal call to serve.
This Charity and Justice section provides some examples of what different ministries can be like in the Catholic Diocese of Honolulu. These ministries are always in the process of developing and strengthening their programs.
