The last of the seven sacraments is the Anointing of the Sick, another of the social sacraments. Herein God comes to his people in times of illness and difficulty and the end time of physical life.
This sacrament is primarily directed toward the forgiveness of sins and healing of body and soul. It is a sacrament of the living and should be administered before death and, hopefully, when the person is able to participate in the ritual and prayers.
Absolution of sin, anointing and the laying on of hands are the symbols used and convey the healing and comforting power of the human touch as well as God's love and mercy.
Anyone who receives this sacrament is healed at least in soul and is strengthened for the moment when they will step from time into eternity.
