"Lent for Life" Week Four - CRS Rice Bowl Stories of Hope

March 21, 2022

From the Office for Social Ministry

We are made in God’s image and likeness which means every life is sacred. Life and Dignity of the Human Person is the foundation of all the principles of Catholic Social Teaching. As we strive to ensure all our sisters and brothers can live in dignity, we provide care for one another so to be the people God calls us to be.

This week, CRS Rice Bowl introduces us to a village in RWANDA struggling with malnutrition. After Gloriose attended a CRS-funded program that taught her to prepare healthy balanced meals, she was able to feed her children by growing her own kitchen garden. With additional help from CRS, she was also able to obtain a business loan that helped her make enough profit to send her kids to school. Gloriose says she is grateful for the opportunity to be a working woman with a voice.

To view the third Story of Hope, Rwanda – visit the CRS website. During this fourth Friday of Lent, consider preparing a meatless dish from Rwanda. To view the recipe for a vegetable stew with collard greens, click here.

Please post the following in your parish bulletin, on your website or use as a Pulpit Announcement for the weekend of March 26 and 27, 2022 – the Fourth Sunday of Lent:

DRIVEN BY A DREAM

Malnutrition is widespread in Rwanda, but Gloriose and her husband are doing everything they can to keep their children healthy and set them up for success. From learning to grow a kitchen garden to participating in a micro-savings group, Gloriose and Karekezi know it takes many resources to help their children thrive. How have you helped others access what they need this Lent?

Please consider incorporating the weekly RICE BOWL PRAYER INTENTIONS in your Sunday liturgy:

THE FOURTH SUNDAY OF LENT

For Gloriose and her family – whom we meet through CRS Rice Bowl – and for all who struggle with malnutrition, that they can overcome the obstacles that prevent them from accessing healthy and nutritious food. We pray to the Lord…

For our community, that we help to ensure all children have the food they need to develop to their God given potential. We pray to the Lord…
