Living Our Lenten Faith in Action through Corporal Works of Mercy: Feeding the Hungry

March 8, 2021

Throughout our journey through life and Lenten Season 2021, Jesus calls us to prayerfully reflect upon our neighbors in need and respond to their basic needs of humanity. This year’s CRS Rice Bowl Stories of Hope help us to focus on global solidarity and hunger. While many of us may be blessed to have food security, so many of our brothers and sisters do not have that luxury. Families both here in Hawaii and in other faraway parts of the world are facing daily challenges of accessing nutritious and healthy food. This impacts young children especially, during their developmental years.

The Corporal Works of Mercy, as taught by Jesus, give us a model for how we should treat others, as if they were Christ in disguise. This can be done through charitable acts helping our neighbors in need. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, we’ve been providing regular updates for the hungry to access the food they need to sustain their families. Attached are the current listings of emergency food access points in communities on all islands:

Please share these links with your parish community so all can be fed and fulfilled this Lent and beyond.
