Helping the Hungry - Resources from the Office for Social Ministry

October 5, 2020

From the Office for Social Ministry

As we pray for all Covid-19 victims and those struggling to make ends meet during this pandemic, we also ask for your continued support in making sure no one in our family goes hungry. Mahalo to all our parish food ministries across our diocese, who have been working hard, especially during this pandemic, to collect and distribute food to those in need. We also thank our community partners and local Food Banks that are helping us keep food flowing to communities with the greatest needs. Here are latest distribution schedules for the coming month across the state:

The Food Basket on Hawaii Island has issued the October 2020 schedule for Ohana Food Drop Emergency Food Distribution.  Distribution sites are scattered strategically around the island including Waimea, Kea’au, Kohala, Na’alehu, Hilo, Waikoloa, Kona, Pahoa, Volcano and Honoka’a.  Supplies are limited and will be given on a first-come-first-serve basis.

On the Valley Isle, The Maui Food Bank continues to resource communities across the county, which encompasses Maui, Molokai and Lanai. With support from our parish pantries and food ministries on those islands, we are able to supplement the Food Bank’s limited resources to serve the hungry throughout their respective communities.  Here is the most current list of Maui Food Bank Distribution Sites serving Central, Up-Country, North, South, East, West Maui, Molokai and Lanai.

The Hawaii Food Bank is also increasing food supply in more remote areas on Oahu and Kauai through temporary pop-up distribution sites. In order to meet the demand, recipients are asked to pre-register online at the “Pop-up Distributions” page beginning at 9am on the Friday prior to the distribution date. The Oahu dates fill-up FAST so it’s important to visit the Food Bank site often for future pop-up locations and dates. See below for upcoming schedules.
