OLPH School 8th Grader Headed to the First Virtual State Science & Engineering Fair

April 20, 2020

Do Cell Phones Increase the Risk for Cancer?

Check out Our Lady of Perpetual Help School 8th grader Alanna Rillorta’s District Science and Engineering Fair submission! Back on February 15, 2020, Alanna Rillorta participated in the fair, held at Hanalani School, as one of four Our Lady of Perpetual Help School’s representatives; hers being the only one to successfully advance to the State Division. As a student, Alanna has always believed in challenging herself for the better. She believes that real growth comes from the opportunities we choose to take, and the potential we see in ourselves. The reason Alanna has chosen to do this project was that as the usage of cellular devices has increased, so has its health concerns. With that in mind, Alanna set off to solve that mystery and provide a clearer image of the health perspective of these cellular devices, and share it with the world. She hopes that in doing so, she can shed light on the topic, and most importantly learn from the experience itself along the way.

Original plans was to have the State Science and Engineering Fair at the Hawaii Convention Center on April 8-10, 2020. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic in-person judging has been cancelled and the Hawaii Academy of Science and its coordinators have decided to hold their very first Virtual State Science and Engineering Fair which Alanna will be participating on April 20-29, 2020. Way to go Alanna, we’ll be rooting for you!
