CRS Rice Bowl - Giving Your Gifts

April 13, 2020

May the Risen Christ,
Who flung open the doors of the tomb,
open our hearts
to the needs of the disadvantaged,
the vulnerable, the poor, the sick,
the unemployed, the marginalized,
and all those who knock at our door
in search of bread, refuge
and the recognition of dignity.
- Pope Francis

This past Lenten Season will be one that no one will forget. Throughout the past 40 days and the coming weeks and months ahead, we will mourn the tragic, heroic sacrifice of so many because of the deadly coronavirus. This global pandemic makes our world appear so much smaller, as we were reminded by Pope Francis that “we can only get out of this situation together, as a whole humanity.”

Throughout Lent we gathered in our home as a Domestic Church and now having celebrated Holy Week journey of Jesus last supper, passion and death all leading to the hope and joy of Resurrection on Easter.

Now, just as the Risen Lord flung open the doors of the tomb, we are called to open our hearts to the needs of the disadvantaged and vulnerable through our Rice Bowl gifts we generated during Lent.

Families may send their gifts directly to CRS online:

Another option is to save your Rice Bowls for a symbolic conclusion that you would bring to your parish when all are able to safely gather again.  We look ahead to that day when we may reunite in parish churches as a faith community renewed as an Easter people - Jesus is alive in our midst and He welcomes us in a new life with Him! Here is a possible prayer to offer up the Rice Bowl Gifts in your home and parish.

OFFERTORY PRAYER OF RICE BOWL GIFTS
God of abundance, You generously provide for our every need. Having ended our 2020 Lenten journey together in the celebration of Easter, may we now continue to remember our brothers and sisters around the world who are hungry, and all who need our support. We pray that these sacrifices may be an offering of solidarity and a promise of ongoing commitment to our one human family. As good stewards of your many gifts, may we always answer Jesus' call to reach out to share with others in need.  We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen

Mahalo for sharing this Lenten journey together, Best Wishes for a blessed Easter Season.
