Cathedral Renewal Campaign Update: April 2018

To ensure the mother church of the Diocese of Honolulu continues to serve our community for many years to come, the 175-year-old Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of Peace must be renovated, restored and preserved.

Currently, we are in the midst of Phase 2 of our six-phase project: renovations to the bell tower (Phase 2A) were completed in December 2016; and, this past January, we began renovations to the Sanctuary (Phase 2 B-E). A plywood partition wall has been installed to close off the Sanctuary during construction. The wood Altar, the Tabernacle and a crucifix have been relocated in front of the partition wall allowing the Cathedral to continue to operate in the abbreviated space. Construction is scheduled to conclude at the end of July, in time for the 175th anniversary celebration of the Cathedral’s dedication in August 2018.
