Rev. Rheo Ofalsa

"I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and him crucified" (1 Cor 2:2).

 

Father Rheo Ofalsa, son of Romulo and Melodia, was born and raised on Oahu, Hawaii.  After graduating from Mililani High School in 1995, he attended the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado from 1995 to 1999, graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering.  He served six years in the United States Air Force as a Civil Engineering Officer: four years at Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska; and two years at Royal Air Force Base, Lakenheath, United Kingdom.  While serving in the military, Father Ofalsa received a Master's Degree in Business Administration form Bellevue University in Nebraska.

After an honorable discharge at the rank of Captain, Father Ofalsa was accepted as a seminarian for the Archdiocese of Omaha and was sent to study Pre-Theology at Mount Saint Mary's Seminary in Emmitsburg, Maryland from 2005 to 2007.  He went on to study Sacred Theology at the Pontifical North American College in Rome, Italy, where he received a Baccalaureate Degree in Sacred Theology (Cum Laude) from the Pontifical Gregorian University in 2010, and a Licentiate Degree in Sacred Theology (Magna Cum Laude) from the John Paul II Institute at the Pontifical Lateran University in 2012.  He was ordained a priest of Jesus Christ on June 4th, 2011 at the Cathedral of Saint Cecilia in Omaha, Nebraska.

As a priest, Father Ofalsa served as Parochial Vicar at Divine Mercy Parish, Archdiocese of Omaha, in 2011.  From 2012 to 2015, he served as Parochial Vicar at Saint Peter Church, Archdiocese of Omaha.  Returning to Hawaii, he served as Parochial Vicar at Saint Elizabeth Church, Diocese of Honolulu, from October 1st, 2015 to June 30th, 2016.  Currently, Father Ofalsa is the Director of Vocations for the Diocese of Honolulu.

Father Ofalsa has two brothers and a sister.  He enjoys spending time with family, reading, relaxing on the beach, and dabbling around the kitchen.
